Grooming
Cats are fairly fastidious creatures and do an excellent job of keeping themselves clean and tidy, but it is still a very good idea to groom your cat on a regular, ideally daily, basis as brushing or combing regularly serves a number of purposes:-
- Long haired cats in particular are prone to ‘matting’ of fur if it is not kept clean and tangle-free and this is a job which they struggle to manage without a little human assistance. A matted coat is not only unsightly but also very uncomfortable for the cat.
- Brushing or combing removes loose hair which would otherwise be licked and inadvertently ingested, ultimately causing fur balls to form in the cats stomach.
- Brushing helps to remove dirt and dust from the coat together with the occasional flea which your cat may pick up while out and about.
- Daily grooming ensures time devoted exclusively to your cat, which will do both of you the world of good! With the chaos which is the world today and all of the demands on your time, it is very easy to forget to spend some quality time with your cat. He will enjoy being pampered and you will be surprised at just how relaxing it can be for you too!
- Daily close contact in this way also provides you with the opportunity to ‘check over’ the cat for any signs of injury or unusual lumps or bumps.
A healthy cat has bright, dry eyes, a nose clear of discharge but not dry or cracked, lips free from saliva and clean, glossy fur
